2026 Oval Rules & Classes

2026 Race Season Rules and Classes

​

Rocky Mountain RC Raceway reserves the right to adjust rules to maintain fair competition.  All decisions by the Race Director are Final. 

If you have questions about any classes or rules please reach out for clarification prior to racing.

General Rules:

​

  • 4 or more cars to make a class (Novice excluded).

  • No AVC or Driving Aid devices on any car.

  • 1/10th scale vehicles only.

  • Electric powered vehicles only.

  • Hard Case Lipos are required, NO Soft Packs.

  • Race Director has final say on rules during race night.

  • If a rule changes it will be posted as soon as possible.

  • Racers are subject to tech at any time during the race night at the discretion of the race director.

Novice class rules:

  • 1/10 Scale Buggy or SC Truck (Oval or Offroad)

  • Body: Open

  • Tires: Open

  • ESC: Open

  • Motor: Open

  • This is a Beginner Class; the goal of this class is to improve on overall skill level if you are new to racing.

 

Street Stock Rules:

  • Class Description: Street Stock is intended to be an affordable and competitive mid-level dirt oval class that allows racers to participate using commonly available 1/10 scale oval chassis platforms.  The goal of this class is to maintain close racing while allowing reasonable setup adjustments and equipment choices.  Any modification not explicitly listed as legal below is considered illegal.

  • Approved Vehicles:
    • Any 1/10 scale 2WD dirt oval chassis

  • Vehicles must be rear wheel drive only. No 4WD vehicles permitted.
    Body Bodies must resemble scale street stock style dirt oval race cars.

  • Bodies must maintain realistic appearance and may not be modified for aerodynamic advantage.

  • Approved Bodies:
    Any scale street stock style oval body intended for 1/10 scale dirt oval racing is permitted unless otherwise specified by Rocky Mountain RC Raceway.
    Electronics: Electronics are open with the exception of the motor rule listed below.
    Allowed Electronics:
    • Maximum motor limit: 17.5T brushless
    • Reedy 3300 kV motor used in Pure Stock is legal
    • Any ESC is allowed
    • Any receiver provided the gyro is disabled
    • Any steering servo

  • Not Allowed:
    • Gyros or traction control systems
    • Electronic driving aids
    Battery:
    • 2S LiPo batteries only
    • Hard case required
    • Maximum voltage: 8.4V fully charged
    • Maximum capacity: None

  • • Battery must remain in the standard battery location (No Offset Chassis Allowed)

  • Tires
    • Any 2.2 Buggy rubber tire
    Tire Prep Rules
    • Traction additives and cleaners are permitted unless otherwise specified by the race director
    Chassis and Suspension
    • Chassis must remain within manufacturer design limits
    • Suspension geometry must remain within stock limitations
    • Shock oil and spring changes are allowed
    • Ride height, camber, and toe adjustments are allowed
    • Any chassis allowed given it is a direct replacement for the stock chassis and has no left side offset
    Gearing
    • No limitation

    • Low cost
    • Equal performance
    • Competitive racing for new and experienced drivers

  • Any modification that provides a performance advantage outside the intent of this class may be ruled illegal by the race director.

Thunder Trucks:

Class Description: Thunder Trucks is intended to provide fun, affordable, and competitive Nas-Truck style truck racing with a focus on driver skill, durability, and close competition.  The goal of this class is to keep trucks simple, affordable to maintain, and visually consistent with the spirit of stock style truck racing.  Any modification not explicitly listed as legal below is considered illegal.

 

Approved Vehicles
• SR10m Chassis Only

 

Body: Bodies must be truck style bodies and must maintain a realistic truck appearance. Bodies may be trimmed for normal fitment but may not be excessively modified for aerodynamic advantage.

Approved Bodies: Any scale truck style body that covers all four wheels.

Allowed Electronics:
• Motor limited to 17.5t 2 pole 540 motor or 3300kv reedy 4-pole
• Any brushless ESC
• Any receiver provided the gyro is disabled
• Any steering servo

 

Not Allowed
• Modified motors
• Modified ESC firmware
• Boost or turbo settings allowed
• Traction control or active electronic driving aids

Losi 22S Sprint Rules: 

Losi Sprint Stock is a beginner and budget-friendly class intended for racers entering sprint car dirt oval racing. The goal of this class is to keep the cars close to box stock, inexpensive to maintain, and easy to race competitively.

 

The platform for this class is the Losi 22S Sprint. Drivers should focus on driving skill rather than expensive modifications. Any modification not explicitly listed as legal below is considered illegal.

 

Approved Vehicles  - Losi 22S Sprint No other chassis are permitted.

 

Body - Bodies must be scale sprint car bodies intended for the Losi 22S Sprint platform. Bodies must maintain a scale appearance and may not be modified to gain aerodynamic advantage.

 

Approved Bodies - The stock Losi 22S Sprint body and wing package is permitted or proline equivalent. Additional approved bodies may be listed by Rocky Mountain RC Raceway.

 

Electronics - Electronics must remain completely stock and must be the electronics supplied with the Losi 22S Sprint RTR.

 

Allowed Electronics

• Stock Losi RTR motor

• Stock Losi RTR ESC and stock firmware

• Any receiver provided the gyro is disabled

• Stock Losi steering servo or any steering servo with a retail/MAP price of less than $50

 

Electronics must remain unmodified, including software settings.

 

Not Allowed

• Aftermarket motors

• Aftermarket ESCs

• Motor timing adjustments

• Boost or turbo settings

• Modified ESC firmware

 

Battery

• 2S LiPo batteries only

• Hard case required

• Maximum voltage: 8.4V fully charged

• Maximum capacity: 6400 mAh

• Battery must remain in the stock battery location

 

Tires

• Any 2.2 Buggy Rubber Tire Allowed

 

Tire Prep Rules

• Traction additives and cleaners are permitted unless otherwise specified by the race director

 

Chassis and Suspension

• Stock Losi 22S Sprint chassis required

• Suspension geometry must remain within stock limitations

• Shock oil changes are allowed

• Spring changes are not allowed

• Ride height, camber, and toe adjustments are allowed

 

Gearing

• Stock spur gear required

• Maximum pinion gear: 20T

Dirt Midget Rules:

*All height measurements are from bottom of chassis unless otherwise noted.*

General: Maximum Overall Length: 16.750".

Maximum Chassis Width: 4.2" Solid axles are allowed. If solid axles are used the rear axle must be square with centerline of the chassis and parallel to the front axle.

Wheelbase: Min 9.5” Max 10.0”

Width: Minimum = 8.5”; Maximum = 10.0”

Rear Toe: Only non-adjustable rear arms can be used. Trackside toe adjustable rear hubs and or arms are not allowed. Trackside adjustable wheelbase is not allowed (Cannot have toe blocks or anything else attached to an easily adjustable mechanism to allow for wheelbase change trackside).

Offset: Right side of the cage can be no further offset from the outside of the RR tire than 3.625”.

Ballast Weight: Brass, tungsten or steel hubs, arms, arm inserts, caster blocks, steering arms are not allowed. (Ballast weight that can be attached to the main chassis area is allowed as long as it’s secured properly.)

Transmission/Drivetrain: 3 gear transmissions only (No DD, 2, 4 or 5 gear transmissions will be allowed). All gears must be full gears. No narrowed or lightened gears allowed. Plastic, Aluminum and Steel gears are permitted. Steel outdrives only. Blades are permitted. No gear diffs allowed. No rear motor cars allowed unless you can do it in a manner that the tail tank is appropriately sized and located.

Solid Axle Option: If a solid rear axle design is used, the motor must be mounted to the chassis and CVA/CVD must be used to drive the rear axle. No belts or chains will be allowed. A spur gear and pinion must be used in conjunction with the motor plate mounted to the chassis.

CVA/CVD: Dog bones must be equal length. Axles and bones must be made from steel. No aluminum, titanium or magnesium axles or bones allowed.

No aluminum diffs or gear diffs.

Electronics ESC: Hobbywing Justock Speed Controller #30112003

Motor: Hobbywing 13.5T Justock #30408010

Battery: Any 2s Lipo

Tires: JConcepts Sprinters (any compound) or Quasispeed on 2.2 buggy wheels (no mixing of brands).  Rubber Tires only

Class Description 

Pure Stock is a beginner and budget-friendly class intended for new racers entering dirt oval racing. The goal of this class is to keep the cars close to box stock, inexpensive to maintain, and easy to race competitively. 

The platform for this class is the Team Associated SR10. Drivers should focus on driving skill rather than expensive modifications. 

Any modification not explicitly listed as legal below is considered illegal.
